Sealers
Concrete sealants are designed to protect, enhance and maintain the integrity of concrete properties. While they are used to increase the strength and durability of concrete, they also effectively prolong its service life. Sealants provide the benefits of resisting penetration, protecting against stains such as oil, grease and dirt and makes your concrete product much easier to clean while enhancing its colour. Properly sealing your concrete is thus an essential step in minimizing the damage caused by traffic, heavy materials and the elements to which it is exposed.
Many concrete sealants are safe to use with Bradstone products, however, choose a sealer that is not only safe for the environment and your health but one that can provide you, the homeowner, with the most protection against many of the harmful elements. It is important to note that a good sealer can enrich the look of the concrete surface but should never alter its appearance. Summary
• Increases the strength, effectiveness and longevity of concrete products • Resists penetration and abrasions; protects against staining, oil, grease, chemicals and dirt • Colour enhances and lowers maintenance time
Wet or Natural Look
Preserving the natural look or appearance of concrete is just as important as the type of sealant used to protect your patio. Protective coatings come in various sheen levels ranging from low to high gloss finishes.
Achieving a particular finish is an individual preference; however, consider the fact that the higher the sheen level, the more shine it will produce. We at Bradstone suggest a matte or satin finish when sealing our products as it will enrich its natural look without the glossy effect.
Pools and Concrete
Like salt or de-icing products, the chemicals found in pools can be just as harmful to your concrete surface. Sealing your product will protect it not only against environmental elements and stains but will resist to water penetration and seepage of chemicals. Keeping intact the texture of a concrete pool deck while protecting the material against water damage and chemicals is achieved by applying a non-film-forming Protective Sealant. Such protection will repel water, chemicals and stains without increasing the slipperiness. Again, Techniseal offers sealants that do it all.
Creating a slip-resistant surface is another option when sealing your product in wet areas. Texturing the surface or applying a slip-resistant coating will provide better traction and create a safer walking surface. Visit your local dealer as they can suggest a preferred brand specific to your application.

De-icing Products and Salt
Despite their effective ability to dissolve and loosen ice or snow from cold surfaces, salts and de-icing agents can have detrimental affects to the appearance of concrete pavers. Spalling, scalling or pitting is a common problem that often occurs after the application of de-icing salts over concrete surfaces.
Bradstone does not approve or recommend the use of salt or de-icing agents on its concrete pavers. Bradstone pavers are also only intended for side yards or backyards where exposure to de-icing salts will not occur and should not be installed adjacent to driveways.
The only product recommended for de-icing purposes is the use of regular sand as it is safe and effective and will not affect the integrity of the paving stone.
For more information, please refer to Bradstone’s Quality Assurance Guarantee. Natural De-icers Though claiming to be less damaging to concrete surfaces and more environmentally friendly, Bradstone does not approve the use of natural de-icers. Alternatively, the only product we recommend for de-icing purposes is regular sand due to its non-corrosive properties.
